Consciousness

Just as ripples arise on the surface of water when a stone is thrown in, so the stream of thoughts is waves (Vrittis) on the surface of Consciousness (Chitta). The restless activity of the mind creates various fluctuations on the surface of Consciousness, and these fluctuations take on many forms. To ordinary perception, this diversity of forms appears as a single reality: one wave rises only to be swallowed by the next, and so on — without end.

The human form and human life are also waves on the surface of the Ocean of Consciousness. We come into this world as a human existence and depart like waves, yet in truth we are not the waves — we are the Ocean. The wave is born and dies, but the Ocean remains ever Unchanging and Eternal.

Deep Meditation leads to Samadhi, and Samadhi is the Ocean. It is the One Reality. It is the Ocean of Consciousness. And for this to happen, one must enter total inner Silence, dive into the depths, and be the observer rather than the doer.
