For the birth of new life, two are needed—a mother and a father. For the birth of a higher nature, two are also needed—a Guru and a disciple. Without a Guru, just as without our parents, we would not exist. The presence of a Guru is a great fortune. The Guru’s blessings are timeless, and like a ray of the Sun piercing the darkness, they are capable of passing through thousands of years and many incarnations.
“You are all great souls,” Gurudev Pilot Babaji always says. Buddha, Christ, and Krishna are great, yet each of us is an Ocean in which Buddha, Christ, and Krishna are merely waves upon its surface—and we are that Ocean. We are nothing other than the Ocean. There is no need to think that we are something separate from it. To realize one’s greatness is to become very, very silent. For when we become silent, the waves on the surface settle, and the Ocean reveals itself. Everything we think about ourselves is not who we truly are. Today we think one thing about ourselves; tomorrow that thought changes, and a new wave arises, followed by another. These waves have no end. Stop being the waves, and you will become the Ocean.
Everything we need is within us. The Guru is within us. The Guru is both outside and inside us. When the waves settle, this becomes obvious and accessible to understanding. The Guru has been with us from the very beginning and is waiting for us to turn inward. Wandering through the world will never end, but one must stop and go inside Oneself. When this happens, it can be regarded as a new birth. (“In order to enter the Kingdom of God, one must die and be born again,” says the Great Teacher from Nazareth. Jesus was great and divine.)
Only when we have the intention to stop and to let go of everything that is not us—everything our mind has told us about who we are—can a meeting with the Ocean happen, can a meeting with our Guru within ourselves occur. But this requires intention. Talking and thinking lead nowhere. There must be intention. Everything begins with intention.
When the mind is ready to surrender, the Ocean will surely come. Every river has its beginning, but it has no end. When a river leaves its two banks, it becomes the Ocean. Our life is like a river, and its two banks are like a pair of opposites that constantly accompany us. And when the Guru comes into our life, it means that the time has come to become the Ocean, the time has come to separate from the shores and accept our divinity. Without a Guru, this is not possible—just as it is not possible to be born without our parents. Parents give us life, and we remember this, while the Guru gives us Eternity, and death, as a subtle and elusive essence, can already rest.
Respect for one’s parents opens the door to success. The relationship with the Guru is filled with a special bond that lies beyond understanding and beyond the competence of the mind. Each disciple has their own unique and individual relationship with the Master—just as unique and inimitable as fingerprints. If we believe in the divinity of the Master, then we also believe in our own divinity. If not, we will always see only what we wish to see, and the mind will skillfully complete this picture for us.
Я, Йогі Іша, з любов'ю і вдячністю схиляю голову до ніг свого Майстра.
